Asteria Invests in Pioneering Medical VR Startup Holoeyes
Whose Technology Transforms Surgeries and Medical Education

Press Release

Tokyo — August 29, 2023 — Asteria Corporation (Japan listed, Security Code: 3853) announced today that it has invested in Tokyo-based startup Holoeyes, Inc., a developer and provider of medical virtual reality (VR) software service.

Background

Holoeyes is a startup that provides specialized VR software for medical settings, such as clinical medicine and medical education. The company’s software converts patients’ 2D computed tomography scan data and magnetic resonance imaging data into 3D models, enabling surgeons to utilize virtual reality headsets for pre-operative planning and training, while checking organs and vessels in 3D. The company has been recognized by the government’s startup support program J-Startup, and is attracting attention both in Japan and abroad.

Asteria invests in companies that match its “4D” strategy — Data, Device, Decentralized and Design — to accelerate its growth strategy, and concluded that Holoeyes’s business model and services line up with such a strategy. Furthermore, Asteria also pursues synergies between AI subsidiary Asteria ART and Holoeyes, such as the construction of AI-powered medical database, through investments in Holoeyes.
